Beyond its biological function, eating takes on a symbolic meaning that deeply permeates the emotional sphere. Food is not merely nourishment: it is contact, communication, and connection from the earliest moments of life; one of the first and most powerful languages through which we relate to the world.
Nourishment is a photographic project through which I seek to explore the pain that can lead to a compulsive search for food or, conversely, to its rejection. Filling oneself or depriving oneself become extreme attempts to fill profound voids and to define oneself through the boundaries of one’s own body.
The image reflected in the mirror appears distorted. The body, experienced as an enemy, crosses the threshold of the sense of integrity—the last stronghold before the loss of self—and becomes lost in an abyss of pain.
A desire for self-control that conceals the deepest need to control reality itself, an illusion of omnipotence violently confronted by the awareness of human vulnerability.
